2021 The Stall Syrah, Royal Slope
2021 The Stall Syrah, Royal Slope
The 2021 growing season on the Royal Slope specifically, started off a little slower than the rest of the state, which ultimately turned out to benefit these wines from our very warm temperatures in June/July. Those hot temperatures in June and July kind of hit the pause button on development, however this extended our hang time into late Fall, which is more traditional for us. This allowed the fruit to obtain all of those beautiful ripe phenolic flavors and characteristics that come with patience. Overall, the 2021 growing season was quite a pleasure to work with and should be regarded an almost perfect growing year in the vineyards producing wines with ripeness, elegance and excellence.
Winemaker Notes
Our impression of this wine – The ultimate Cab lovers Syrah! Aromas of this wine capture the warmth and boldness of the 2021 growing season. The bouquet offers up gorgeous notes of black fruit, smoked meats, mountain side Yellow Pond-Lily’s and Fireweed, along with delicious flavors of black cherry and licorice snaps. Notes of graphite and cracked pepper reveal themselves subtly. The insanely viscous texture and muscular tannins of this Syrah are tempered beautifully by a subtle kiss of acidity with a marked saline feel. Flavors and structure are incredibly concentrated and hefty on the palate. Pop a couple in their youth but be sure to lay a few down to experience the evolution of this heady Syrah.
